AIRS AND GIANTS BATTLE FOR PLAY-OFF SPOT

After topping the NBL ladder for most of the first half of the season, the Nelson Giants currently sit 5th — one spot ahead of the Mountainairs. The two teams meet for the third and final time this season on Thursday evening at 7pm at TSB Stadium New Plymouth.

Both teams have won one game apiece, so this will be the decider, with the winner getting one step closer to play-off contention.

After missing the last two matches with a knee injury, it is hoped Marcus Johnson will be able to take the court, along with Brad Anderson who missed last weekend’s match with a toe injury.

For the Giants, watch out for the sublime skills of 400 game veteran Phill Jones, and newly contracted Breaker, Finn Delany. Their import, Ray Cowells III is the NBL’s top scorer, while it will pay NOT to foul the Giants as three of their players sit in the top 5 for best free throw percentage (Jones, RC3 and other import, Ben Strong).

Three of their players also rank in the top five for Average Turnovers (RC3, Delany and Tall Black Jarrod Kenny), so the Airs will be keen to hustle the Giants at every turn.

Doors open at 6pm, so make sure you get along to support the Airs in what is sure to be an exciting match.
